| 内容記述 | This paper explored rumor acceptance and transmisson as a function of anxiety and uncertainty about AIDS, the importance of AIDS for the subjects, and the credulity of the rumor itself. The research by mail method was conducted in the Tokyo area in March 1993. Subjects were selected from those registered with a research company, Asahi Elle to achieve diversity in sex and age. Two hundred and twenty questionnaire were returned, 115 of which were male and 105 of which were female. The data was analyzed by discriminant analysis in order to discriminate three groups, who had not heard any rumors, those who had heard rumors, but did not transmit them, and those who transmitted them to others. 1. Uncertainty about A IDS was a strong predictor of receiving rumors and transmitting them. The subjects who had a feeling of uncertainty about AIDS, tended to receive many rumors and transmit them to others. 2. The importance of AIDS to the subjects was also significant. The subjects who were seriously concerned with AIDS were not apt to receive rumors and transmit them to others. 3. Although anxiety about AIDS was hypothesized as an essential predictors, anxiety was not found to have any significant relations to rumor acceptance and transmission. 4. The credulity of the rumor positively related to acceptance and transmission. 5. People who did not believe the information which flew through personal networks did not transmit the rumors after receiving them. |
