内容記述 | Since 2013, I have lectured in “Museum Resource Preservation Theory,” a class added as part of the new curriculum for the curator training course at Bunkyo University Faculty of International Studies. As I was to lecture not only on material held by museums, but also more broadly on “cultural assets,” I was interested to see in what manner the attending students’ thoughts regarding cultural assets would change over the half-year duration of the class. I therefore issued the following task to the students as part of a routine examination: “Regardless of whether they have been formally designated as such or not, choose one or more ‘items that you personally consider to be cultural assets’ and write on them as though providing an explanation to another person.” My intention was to try to see if some changes could be identified when compared to the answers that students had provided in a questionnaire filled out during the first lecture. In this paper, I make use of the data gathered from these reports, tasked to students over a threeyear period from 2013 to 2015. I consider the changes in student thinking regarding cultural assets that occurred over a total of fifteen lectures given in a half-year period, as well as the background selected by students for the items they provided as examples. From the results, it can be seen that the students began to think of cultural assets not as unrelated to themselves, but as existing in their near vicinity. Furthermore, while cultural assets come in both tangible and intangible forms, a particularly interesting result was that among the items given as examples, many students showed a high level of interest in intangible forms, especially as relating to language. From these results, we can say that the students thought of intangible phenomena as also capable of being cultural assets, as well as understood that things familiar in day-to-day life can either already be or have the potential to become cultural assets. |
