| 内容記述 | Because the Tokyo Olympic & Paralympic Games are to be held in 2020, more and more foreign tourists are expected to visit Japan. The English signs in Japan’s popular tourist sites have to be increased in number and improved in quality so that the tourists will be able to enjoy fruitful and profitable trips to those sites. This paper, as a case study, examines and suggests the English on signs in historical Christian sites,in Nagasaki, Shimane, and Yamaguchi Prefectures, such as the Kashiraga-shima [-island]-tenshudou [-cathedral], the Kuro-shima-tenshudou, Otome-touge [-pass]. and Shibuki Nakayama-chiku-kinenchi (the praying spot of the Nakayama district in Shibuki village). The Kashiraga-shima-tenshudou and the Kuro-shima-tenshudou are designated as nationally important cultural properties, and are among the components of Kashiragashima-no-shuuraku [-village] and Kuroshima-no–shuuraku. They are inscribed on the World Heritage List by UNESCO as “Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki and Amakusa Regions.” The signs discussed here are again those which indicate the general summarized information of these sites. If there are no such signs or if descriptions on such signs are thought to be inadequate, the writer’s suggestions will be added. The methods of writing the explanatory notes and Japanese names of the places, persons, or things will in principle follow Fukushima (2015.7), (2015.9), (2016.7), (2017.1) and (2018.7). |
